Automobile Dashboard Technology Is Simply Awful When I went car shopping recently, I was amazed by the autonomous technologies in most new models: automatic lane-keeping, braking to avoid collisions and parallel parking, for example. But I was appalled by the state of dashboard technology. Technology sells, so car companies are all about touch screens and apps these days. Unfortunately, they're truly terrible at designing user interfaces (UIs)—the ways that you, the human, are supposed to interact with it, the car. A good user interface (a) is easy to navigate, (b) puts frequently used controls front and center, (c) gives clear feedback as you make a change and (d) is apparently beyond the capabilities of today's car companies. I asked my Twitter followers to help me nominate the W

This Famous Futurist Predicts How China Will Use Technology To Change The World One institution that’s been dramatically impacted by new technology is higher education. Whereas previous generations struggled with pressure from parents and society at large to attend college, Kelly believes today’s high schoolers have a choice to make. If you’re a self-motivated person who can arrange and optimize your own learning, then you don’t need college. On the flip side, if you need incentive and motivation to complete things, college is probably the best option for you.“The technology that enables cognification to happen is the greatest force that will be at work the next few decades,” Kelly explained. “Over the long term, say 50 to 100 years, it’s going to be the equivalent of the industrial

The Zenvo TSR-S Is a Danish Race Machine From zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.8 seconds, the Zenvo TSR-S truly is a street legal “race car.” As of right now, only 5 copies of the Zenvo TSR-S are slotted for production, so these beauties won’t be gracing the streets all too often. The newest model features much of the same styling as other Zenvo models, but gets some seriously upgraded hardware.Of course, when producing that much horsepower, the biggest challenge is often getting the horses to the pavement. Such high horsepower cars need a lot of downward force both to produce acceleration and to keep the car from ripping itself off the ground. The Zenvo TSR-S features a large aggressive wing that generates both downward and inward force, which will help the tires grip th

Customs duty hike on car parts may put brakes on luxury car sales New Delhi: Increases in customs duty on some imported engine components and completely knocked down (CKD) units are set to put a brake on the surging sales of luxury cars. And, according to India’s largest luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz, their cars will get dearer by 3% to 5%.According to Rahil Ansari, head of Audi India, the firm was initially looking at double-digit sales growth this year, but is now expecting a flat year.“Increase in custom duty has definitely affected prices again, which will dampen customer sentiment. The market had started to stabilize after the introduction of GST (goods and services tax) but the increase in cess has negated any benefits and the decision in the Union budget will make t

Porsche Mission E Two-Door, Convertible Possible; RWD Likely As Porsche readies for the introduction of its fully electric Mission E next year, the automaker continues to reveal more technical details about the production version—while also dropping some hints about what comes after the Mission E in the brand’s electric push.Porsche pointed to one such possibility this past week in the form of its Mission E Cross Turismo concept shown at the Geneva auto show. Although that version takes a conceptual leap halfway to SUVs, with a more rugged tack and a bit more ground clearance, don’t expect anything closer to an SUV built on Mission E underpinnings. That’s because the Mission E’s J1 platform—custom developed by Porsche alone—wouldn’t adapt well for high-floor vehicles, according to

So this is the basic principle how to convert your car to run on water. There is a growing amount of people that are tired of the increasing gas prices, which embrace this new technology that shows them how to save gas. What can be called "water-fuel technology" is age old, over 91 years. All we've done is raise it from the dead and develop a simple structure based on l...

Interlock device could prevent drunk-driving deaths

Health & Beauty, Technology
Every day, almost 30 people in the US lose their lives in an alcohol-related motor vehicle crash. But according to a new study, introducing alcohol interlock devices to all new motor vehicles could prevent more than 80% of these deaths. In most US states, people who are convicted of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol are often required to get an alcohol interlock device, also known as an ignition interlock device, installed in their vehicle to prevent them from further engaging in drunk driving. An ignition interlock device is a mechanism installed on a vehicle's dashboard. It works like a breathalyzer, in that the driver must breathe into the device for it to measure their blood alcohol content (BAC). If the driver's BAC is above the legal limit - which var...
